I thought I had posted before but can't find it so I'll try again.
My son started taking Adderall last spring for ADD and it was great. He was doing wonderfully and able to concentrate. Went off over the summer and started back in the Fall. When he went back on he started to have problems with agitation and anger. The doc prescribed risperal and zoloft to go along with the med and although it helped a little, he had problems concentrating and was still somewhat agitated. The doc said to try a second dose of all meds at lunch and the first time he did this he got dizzy and passed out and slept for 3 hours. The doc said take him off everything immediately - cold turkey.
That was a month ago. He started having large muscle spasms (like before you fall asleep and you have a large jerk) or his arm or leg will fly a day after stopping meds. This only happens about once or twice a day now or when he is cold. He gets terribly dizzy and exhausted. Is getting better with his anger. The thing that is really scary is he is having hallucinations or visual problems. He said he sees the walls out of the corner of his eyes in waves. He looked at his car key yesterday and said it was bent. He said that the world just goes slanted and then straightens up. He has had bloodwork, EKG, EEG, and CT scan. All normal. His family doc said he should seek psychiatric help.
It seems these are all side effects from the meds he was on but it should be out of his system by now. He never had ANY problems before the meds.
I don't know what to do or how to help. He is only 16.
Any help would be much appreciated.
