On restraints I have a heart condition and a PTSD issue that can cause me to die because of restraints . And it is documented in state hospital records to never use restraints because the risk of my death was too high. Plus they also saw I was not one to be an imminent risk to people even when completely out of it. I was more into avoidance LOL. But it was brought to my attention then that this would have been a very dangerous situation for me. And now ten years later my heart is even weaker than it was then and I suffocate easily . Already have had one heart attack. So that was one of the reasons along with the med issues I was even looking at it. I knew two people while I was in the state hospital who died in restraints because of unknown heart issues. One died within one hour of the implementation and the other after having been left in there 18 hours strait. She was dehydrated and when they went in there and stood her up she was dead before she hit the ground. They commented then that that was just one less crazy the state would have to support now. One client called the police and reported it. They showed up and saw and said state problem not ours and left without even writing anything down. No one cares about the mentally ill and if they die. Most dont have family so the states walk scott free many times on this stuff. That is why I was interested in the advanced directive . I dont want to end up a statistic . I have no family to fight for me at all. and the state knows this. So I have to make precautions so I can in full confidence get treatment and know I can do so without endangering my life. This APD may be a way to do so. Takes away the fear if the rules are set in stone when you are first admitted. And is easier to cooperate when you dont feel at the mercy of any whim of a pissed off Psych worker having a bad day displaces the anger and takes it out on you the patient at their mercy. I have seen some major nightmares with mental health treatment . I dont want any more traumatizing problems from treatment that is supposed to help me but instead caused more trauma.
