Wow! The exact same thing (sort of) happened to me a few months ago. I was pulling out of a parking lot, and I was glancing to the left to see if there were any cars coming. I had thought that the car in front of me already pulled out, but then I heard this crunching noise, and I thought that I had hit the curb. I looked forward and realized that I had smashed into her (very nice) SUV. I did not total my car, but I needed to have the hood and fender and light repaired, some painting, some other stuff. It brought me way down for several weeks, not to mention ruined my good driving recond. I'm waiting to see what my insurance will spike up to when January comes.
Sorry that you have to go through this. I know how much it sucks.
