I think that there can be. Although often, a biological disorder that deprives you of sleep can be expressed in psychological ways -- poor attention span, depressive aspect, etc.
But remember, men often feel pressured _not_ to express feelings of 'depression,' or other feelings of vulnerability. Plus, in some families there is a desire to suppress all negative feelings and make everybody pretend that everything is all happy.
If you're genuinely worried about your dad, nudge him to go to the dr. about any symptoms that still persist. Quitting coffee and going without for a few days might help, for example.
*sigh* But in the end, you can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped -- you can only really focus on how you react to things, right?
