Dear jyl, have you thought it may have been sommething about your sister, not you? Maybe there was a small "glitch" in your sister's mind that made her seek an imaginary friend, not you being wrong for her & that there was something in you she didn't want.

When we're rejected for whatever reasons, it hurts badly. Then we get brooding & depressed to some degree over it. If we're rejected repeatedly, we think "it must be something about me". But that doesn't have to be the reason.

Have you ever noticed how certain people attract others & conversely how some individuals gravitate to a certain type of persons? I think it's a combination of our genetics & our early childhood environment. Try as hard as I did & being fully aware of it, I did my best to pick a husband who wasn't like my father (emotionally cold & could be very nasty). But still, I ended up with someone who was much like my father. He was just much more clever at not showing it to others, but then my father may have been too. I remember my Mom saying how other women said they'd love to have him as he was so helpful & handy. Yeah, right! Just to other people, not his own family & my husband was like that.

Your sister my have had some disturbance that, as a child, you wouldn't have thought was anything the matter. It, sadly, teaches us to pick similar friends, many times, as we grow older.

jyl, you're just fine to me.
