Questionmark,
You wrote,[...is it ever too late to ...become well-adjusted...good...happy...have a purposeful life...].
I can tell you that there is. and I can tell you what I have experianced in relation to those that have these afflictions.
You see, I have a friend that has cerebral palsey. But he has [Overcome] his affliction. He still has cersbral palsey, but he does not let his affliction [weigh down] on him. Instead,he has reversed the weight of the affliction so that he is [on top] of it. Our afflictions weigh us down also. If we are captives to them, if we let them imprison us, with the weight of fear, guilt, shame, inferiority feelings, unusal exitment, feelings of hopelessness, dread, suicide wishes, and a plathora of other unwelcome thoughts that create a weight that seems impossible to be under at times and make us think that we are in a prison without a means to escape, then we need a Way, a way to be free from them.
And we can [Overcome]. The affliction will still be there, but we can have a victory over the effects of it, just like my friend that has the victory over cersbral palsey. His attitude is,[...I'm sitting on top of the world...], so what if I am limited, I can still rejoice in my infirmity. You might say, "how can one rejoice in there infirmity?" Well, if others could overcome their affliction, could not {us} [Overcome] also? So, [...is it too late?...]. There is a way to [Overcome] these afflictions, because they are afflictions of the mind. And our mind can be [...cleaned out...] of these horrible thoughts. We need to find a [cleansing] to purify the mind of this darkness so that we can see the light of the things that you asked if you could ever have. The light of {goodness}, {purpose}, {adjustment}...and other things that you could have left out in your post...]. Are we to be slaves to our affliction? Are our afflictions going to be shackles that take our liberty to live an abundant life away? Can we not have the victory over the affliction and have the shackles of slavery to these afflictions broken? Can we not be made free from these jaws of defeat? I do not know what course others may take, but it was said to me by a Rider on a White Horse:
"The SPIRIT of the Lord God is upon me:
Because the Lord has annointed Me to preach good tidings to the meek;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the oppening of the prison to those that are bound."
Lou
