I thought about this after I hit submit.

My husband had a fight last night over this very kind of squinting modifier.

I use this example in my class:
That he cleaned the car thoroughly pleased her.

Did he clean the car thoroughly? Or was she thoroughly pleased?

In my case, I said later that I went with friends, so I'm hoping it came across that the old geezer was solo.
