This is actually one subject I know a bit about. Two years ago I had to leave my best friend behind. She was like your friend, lazy, manipulative and never made any attempt to better her situation or life. I spent years trying to "help" and "fix" her. In the end it just leaves you extremely frustrated and angry that your "help" isn't "helping". Sooner or later your anger will grow until you "blow up" at her, at which point she will play "Who me? What did I do wrong?", classic manipulation. These people are not in denial, they know EXACTLY what they are doing. We want to believe it is denial because to realize it is manipulation hurts. Take it from someone who has been there, get out while you can. It only get worse. My new philosophy "Better to have no friends than friends like these!" Good luck!
