'Twas the Week Before Christmas

Posted by WorryGirl on December 11, 2002, at 18:29:45

THE WEEK BEFORE CHRISTMAS

'Twas the week before Christmas and all through the mall
Not a shopper had stayed home or a sales clerk at all
The sale signs were hung from the racks with great care
In hopes that big spenders soon would be there

When from a men's clothier there arose such a clatter
All heads craned inside to see what was the matter
For I, with my Visa and the stores with their lines
Had prepared ourselves for a long day of whines

Then what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a huge bearded man with a loaded revolver
As mad as a hornet, and probably as quick
I knew in a moment he must be an escaped convict

And more rapid than eagles everyone crouched down
As he shouted "I want my money back, and right now!"
And so up to the register the sales clerk soon flew
With a sleigh full of toys and his refund, too.

He left the stunned store with a leap and a bound.
He was adorned with metal studs and his belly was round.
He spoke not a word but just plowed through the door
With the gun in his pocket and his receipt on the floor

And laying his finger up the side of his nose,
He mumbled about the challenge of finding good clothes
But I heard him say as we still shook with fear
"Merry Christmas to all, but shop the internet next year!"
