Think you're messed up? Read the Ana Creed.

Posted by Gracie2 on October 28, 2002, at 18:32:54

"Ana" is short for pro-anorexic. I was surfing through some of these websites out of curiosity
(I'm Danish, love food way too much to ever give it up myself) and was startled by the complexity
of some these sites, it's like a cult or an underground religion. They have their own jargon
(like "trigger pics" and "mia"), publish links to other sites that have not (yet) been banned, an internet petition against banning "ana" sites, and even their own "commandments". Some of them were sort of frightening, like "Being thin is more important than being healthy". But the following 2 "commandments" in the "Ana Creed" shocked me so much that I wrote them down:

*I believe that I am the most vile, worthless and useless person ever to have existed on this planet, and that I am totally unworthy of anyone's time and attention.
*I believe that other people who tell me differently must be idiots. If they could see how I really am, they would hate me almost as much as I do.

My God! What's the point of that! This "creed" was published on several "Ana" sites that I looked up. Is it to convince themselves that they don't deserve to eat? That they don't deserve to be loved, so they might as well starve, or destroy their health trying? I don't get it.

Boy, and they called me sick.
