Kaanapali, for my precious special One

Posted by kid a on October 22, 2002, at 20:35:01

Kaanapali

"E lauhoe mai na wa'a;
i ke ka, i ka hoe;
i ka hoe, i ke ka;
pae aku i ka 'aina."

I wanted to fill
this poem full of
fanciful verse,
Big Big words,
Aching sadness, and
breathless wonder
I wanted to fill
it with Oceans,
Sunlight,
World without End,
Amen,
The Star of
David.

I wanted to stich it
together with
sand and
Thatch and thyme.
I want it big
like a horse,
isn't that a
wonderful thought---
What makes it
pretty,
Long Long kisses
the warm rain
the dark soulless
eyes of the
locals
those surfer boys
The Star of
David.

I wanted so much
I think I've
over reached again.
How do I describe?
The inexhaustible
array of words
that could be used
to pen this
Mythopoetic mess
Oh Mother would
be proud,
your Father would
be proud,
That lonesome aimless
heart of sharks
That arching bone,
Rickety timber
Flowers in
the cold cold
of winter,
Glistening wet
snow, falling
through trees
the Sun, shines
on your Lei,
The Star of
David.

Oh I could wish,
and these are
my words
not Plath's, not
Sexton's, not
Bukowski's,
not Plan's
and so they're
daft and somewhat
Flawed
breaking
where they
sho
uldnt
not quite as
lyrical
as I would
like them
to be
but they kiss
you deep
deep deep
kiss
with a wreath
of flowers
round your
head, blessing
your
imac-
ulate
God Blessed
beautiful
Star of
David,

Star of
David,

STAR OF
DAVID.

Amen.
