Gabbi, hun,

> I cannot tell a lie, I do not deserve a good for you that he's your former fiance..

You do too. Problems would have arose in time anyway. Better done with before there are other complications (home, kids, etc.).

> He dumped me for someone else and.....
> That is what triggered (not caused) my first cataclysmic breakdown.

That is what killed me the first time around as well. I say 'killed' because I haven't been the same since, and it has been 17+ years. Conciously I let go long ago, but subconciously, I am still stuck.

The only difference in my case is that she was a wonderful person in whom I cannot think of a single fault (except perhaps the fact that she dumped *me* :-)).

> I went to my psychiatrist for the first time after I realized that this was more than a broken-heart thing.

Funny, that was what triggered my first visit as well, and for the same reason.

> He deals only with medication so I asked for a reference to a therapist.

Well, I wasn't ready to accept that I needed help in a big way, so I just pushed everything into my subconcious and went on with my life.

> He did just that. And it turned out (unbeknownst to me) that he'd recommended me to the woman my fiancee had dumped me for.
> It made me believe in a higher power though, I figured that of all the therpaists My Doc could have recommended out of the ENORMOUS amounts of therapist there are in Vancouver, for him to have picked that one must have been divine intervention (to drive me even crazier, but divine intervention nonetheless).

Nah. Just coincidence. Let's look at this in a different light: Suppose she (the therapist & ex-fiancee's significant other) is a wonderful, warm, caring person who is truly interested in others. That's why your former fiancee fell for her. That's also why the pdoc recommended her -- because she truly cares for and tries to help her patients.

> I did find out in the nick of time, though.

Good for you! Whew! I am too braindead to figure out things like that.

final note:
With respect to "higher powers" and "divine influences", I say *hogwash*. Any god who causes these illnesses (depression, bipolar, schizophrenia, borderline, ...) has such a sick and hurtful way with humanity that I think worship of such an entity should be punishable by a lifetime in a mental institution taking psych meds. Sorry, I have to get off my soap box now, but that's how I feel.
