Virginia mental health parity

Posted by waterlily on April 23, 2002, at 11:54:39

Does anyone know what the mental health parity law in Virginia says? I have a medically based diagnosis and thought I was all set and didn't have to worry about limiting my therapy sessions to twenty this year, but my insurance company said that my policy does not have parity on it. I thought the whole purpose of a parity law was to not deny care to people who need it. I had a rough time earlier this year and have already used up ten sessions. That means I have to stretch the remaining ten through the next 8 months or pay for additional sessions at $110 each out of pocket. My med check visits with my psychiatrist are unlimited, so he has speculated that if I slip again I can see him for support rather than my psychologist. I don't know what to do, but this whole thing really worries me. Any input would be very much appreciated.
