It was my constant companion at 97X, owned and operated by a former fatcat advertising exec, who paid us in RESTAURANT VOUCHERS and found the disagreaable, drug-soaked, rock-n-roll mentality completely wrong, unfathomable; musicians showing up stoned, incomprehensible, pilfering the promotionals, Meat Puppets staggering out the door w/ books and CDs falling out their overcoats, AT LEAST THEY SHOWED UP, but no, no thanks, no hipnitude, it was all deviance, all my undoing, as if I was somehow pulling the strings, sorry sir but I believe you're taking the "puppet" part a little too literally, it's a METAPHOR, boss, a boss metaphor ya might say, get it? and he hides in the office, scrambling through Websters, door closed, what is this shit, metaphor, met-a-phor, ...they don't teach this unamerican rhetoric in Plutocracy College, but fastforward 2 years later, when suddenly the crown of thorns morphs into a 3.5 million dollar price on his head, a diadem worth its price in poise now that, and in spite of, his unrelenting obstruction of the good, the true and the nice, aka you-know-who, the Bearded One's baffling offspring has been documented in a 4 page cover story by SPIN magazine as the only American radio station worth a shit, thanks in no small part to, c'mon now, say it loud, i'm sacked and i'm proud, by then you realize he'd long since fired my Billy Bragg coffee cup ass, but, looking back on it now seems vodka-clear by then our work there was more or less done.you're very fucking welcome,
