The opera

Robin - why do you think we're all so into self-denial? Going to the Met is a truly unique experience particularly for those of us who live in the hinterlands. I still haven't gone and hope to some day, but I think you should never fill guilty about providing yourself with this kind of experience - it's not like you're doing it every week.

A couple of years ago my siblings and I decided to give my Dad Met tickets for his birthday. He is a true opera buff and tries to get to NYC once a year for the opera. We decided to go the gift certificate route since we didn't really know what he'd like to see or when he could go. Since I never pay attention to these things, I had no idea how expensive it actually was. "Sticker shock" doesn't do justice to my reaction.

I'm glad you went. Tosca's great...an opinion expressed by someone who's only seen a community opera performance but loved it.
