Music and Math for sid

I am even thinking of studying math for the heck of it if I have time to retire before I die. And my life would be so much less pleasant without music.

The way I have to do math, Sid, is to absolutely immerse myself in it. I need to do it every day for long stretches & then it just comes so easily to me. It's like I have to completely menatlly change gears to do math. But when I'm busy doing it, then it's so much fun for me. It's literally a game.

I see life like a tapestry, almost everything I look at or observe, nature, people's social contacts, birds, clouds & sky with trees, it's all a pattern. I don't so much 'see' the patterns as 'sense' them. It's very much like there's another sense involved than the normal 5 senses but I have no name for it. It's a very beautiful feeling when I sense it in nature. Not so nice when I sense it with conflicting personalities in a group. But others often don't see what I see & I wish someone could to share it. It's also like a moving tapestry too. People, thoughts, feelings, objects are like they interweave & twine & dance about each other. Boy, what a lame way of trying to express myself. Oh, well. How can something so abstract be put into words?

You know sid, even if you don't learn to do all the calculations, just reading about different math systems & how they're found in nature or how they're used around us is very interesting. It opens your eyes to so many things.

I honestly believe that math is an inborn trait just like language or walking is. But it's not something that's cultivated or used enough so people forget it at a very early age. We have to talk & walk each day. I bet if we had to do math & added to it bit by bit like we do with language, we'd all become math-literate.

P.S. I only sing when I feel happy again. When I am happy, I sing almost all the time.
