If you moved to work, there's also work colleagues. If any of them seem friendly, you can test things out by going for lunch together or something. Either as a group or with a particular person.

Classes are sometimes suggested, tho I've had mixed experience of those (eg learning french, doing yoga etc). Tho there are other people there with the same interest, there's often not much time to talk to anyone and find out if you might get to be friends outside the class.

So the suggestions re things like voluntary work are better, given the choice, as there's more chance to get to know people (as well as a worthwhile way to spend your time).
