They *did* leave my sister on a street corner and drive off when she was only 4-5 yrs old but that was a mistake. :-) My dad *did* have the ol' whippin' belt, but I don't remember it being more than a threat. Instead my parents used a wood yardstick (OK meter stick for you non Americans). I remember it quite well :-0 Don't get me wrong -- I was not abused, but I did get my due course of punishment (well, still today my mother says I didn't get enough "straightening out" when I was younger).
