lawsuit may be in order

Posted by Terry Comeau on July 11, 2001, at 21:30:02

I am a proud Canadian and do not share some Americans penchant for lawsuits
BUT... I happen to agree with Maxine.

When I started on effexor nothing in the literature that came with the
med said anything about the horrendous withdrwal process.

In Canada the pharmacy must provide a fact sheet on the drug when
prescribed. There was absolutely no mention whatsoever of the
ordeal that I was in for upon discontinuing effexor.

I firmly believe that at minimum, Wyeth-Ayerst should have to cover the
expense of any client that was forced to take the drug for much longer
periods than was initially intended due to withdrawal problems.

Furthermore, Wyeth-Ayerst should be held responsible for punitive damages
for the hellish experiences that withdrawal has cause their customers.
If the drug had been tested properly, Wyeth-Ayerst must have been fully
aware of the withdrawal problems associated with effexor. If they weren't
aware, then their testing was sorely lacking, to the point of legal
responsibility!!!

Unfortunately, their culpability in this legal travesty may well lead to
lawsuits and possibly the removal of this drug from the market place.

If that is the case, then Wyeth-Ayerst will then be responsible fot the
third crime which is the ultimate denial of this drug to those few that it helps.

I, myself, fully intend to ensure that Wyeth-Ayerst is dealt with appropriately by
the authorities responsible in Canada.
