This might sound trivial, but try getting a flowering plant or cactus to add some colour to your place. There's some nice finches that sing real nice. On the negative side then you have to clean up the bird cage.
Are you working? If not try a drastic change, like a move to a little town.
If there is an empty lot check into starting a neighbourhood garden. I use to be big on gardening vegetables but now don't have the umph to get the seeds into the ground. But I do like to sit in the yard plucking weeds. I'm definitely happier outdoors.
