My p-doc recommended I stop Effexor when I expressed that I was feeling apathetic, detached, and very lethargic. Actually, I thought he was more concerned with my weight. I still think that, to be honest. After three to four frightening weeks of withdrawal, I went to see my doctor. He gave me "the look!" He had no clue as to the withdrawal symptoms. I was allergic to the AD he gave me to assist me in weaning off of Effexor. He didn't figure that out either. He's obviously clueless, and I feel drained and without much to rely on when it comes to medicine. I'll be going back to therapy soon. I'm feeling rather sad most of the time because I can't figure the my brain-body dichotomy, Seratonin Sydrome. I don't want to discourage those who need the meds, but I wonder how many people are out there who feel like I do about SSRI's? I admit it's a bit ironic that I had the double whammy of a severe allergic reaction to taking Wellbutrin to lessen the withdrawal from Effexor! However, who's to trust? Drugs are out by personal choice [I hate the side effects and withdrawal]. Who's been where I am? Maureen

Dear Maureen,

I have been on anti-depressants for over 23 years now; I am so, so sick of the side effects;
I am not sure which is worse, the side effects or
the depression itself. I hear you big time!!
I feel so trapped in a catch-22 situation. It is
so frustrating....!
Glenn
