Carl Rogers humanistic therapy

Posted by Happyflower on April 11, 2008, at 10:39:43

In interesting thing in session happened yesterday. We were talking about my therapy. I then said to him, you know what you do for me? I said you give me unconditional positive regard. I said it feels great because I have never experienced that even though I do that with my own kids.

He said, in 40 years of therapy, he has never had a client say that in that way. But then again I am studying psychology. He said it made him feel good, it is what he believes in. He then told me that as one of his minors he took this education class about Carl Rodgers and humanistic psychology. But he said it wasn't really training, it is just who he is as a therapist. He said he isn't the typical psychologist psychologist, he isn't interested in testing or research anymore.
All I know is that it feels incredible I told him, I feel like I can be myself without a mask and that is huge for me. It feels so empowering.
