Different therapists have different rules. And sometimes the rules are different for clients as they leave than during active therapy.

I discussed my therapist's gift rules long before I gave him anything. He accepts gifts unless he thinks it would be untherapeutic for a given client. So if a client were to frequently give gifts, or give gifts of large monetary value, he'd have to consider what that meant to them, and probably discuss it with them.

I never gave anything at all until our tenth anniversary. And on our twelfth, I brought in a dozen daisies, just on a whim. And this year a river rock not much larger than a pebble.

If he does refuse, it would just be his policy and nothing personal at all.
