Good topic! My T has a chess set on one of his bookshelves, which he said he uses with "patients who look like they would like to play", (and who probably are having trouble talking) so that would be a good place for me to start. When I was doing art therapy two years ago, we used to do "Squiggles"- the drawing game which Winnicot used with children. One person draws something, and then the other person starts with one of the "ends" and sees what they can make of it. As you do it, you become very aware of your, and the other person's style and intentions. Often, too, you end up drawing something important to you without consciously meaning to.
