I always say I didn't really start therapy until five years into therapy. It's not that I didn't talk, I talked plenty. But I didn't say much of substance.

When I did start, it was because I trusted that I could say anything I want and my therapist wouldn't (in his favorite expression) run screaming out of the room.

So trust and acceptance.
