I have worked for many therapists (at an agency) and now for a private practice group. I would have to say I TOTALLY agree with you. At a minimum they have at least as many of their own "issues" as do the clients, and some have more. I do not think that necessarily impedes their ability to counsel others. The analogy I use is that a medical doctor can be overweight with heart disease but still work to cure his/her patients. "Physician Heal Thyself" and "the Cobblers Children have no Shoes" and all of that.
