I suffered from PTSD for years after being raped.

I did some counselling many years ago and that helped a lot.

I still had a few PTSD symptoms when I started therapy last year but things are much better now.

I’m not terribly worried that it will get triggered again. I think I might have to work on it every now and then for the rest of my life. But I don’t think I will have PTSD again.

I think in the future I will try to plan therapy for when I think it might become an issue. I respond fairly strongly to anniversaries, so I think I’d like to have a session on that date once time.

And I’m pretty sure I need to revisit it about every five years, because otherwise I seem to go back into denial. Maybe that’s just me…

> My T says he thinks I would respond much differently to my mother is she showed up at my door or threatened my families life again becasue I am a stronger person and he desensatized the past abuse. He said it would make my upset, but he didn't think I would most likely not suffer from PTSD because of it. What do you think? I feel recovered completely, but is it like adictions, which even though you quit, it is always with you?

I think you have probably recovered from the PTSD. Whether you can ever recover completely from such a traumatic experience is a matter of debate, I suspect. In my view it’s a bit like breaking a bone; you can heal but there might be a residual weakness.

I think it’s worth keeping your eye one it as time goes by and if you find you’re avoiding thinking about it, or you’re having other problems, go back to therapy.

Just my two cents.
