Adult ADD, what meds?

Posted by isabellem on January 14, 2004, at 17:48:08

For adults with ADD: What medication(s) are you taking and in what doses?

Quick background: I have a 30-year history of depression; been in some form of therapy for most of the time—lots of different pdocs and Ts (I move a lot); been on just about every antidepressant as well as an array of other psych meds (but have also gone long periods w/nothing); was diagnosed with bipolar disorder (then 'manic depression') in the late 70s [at McLean's Hosp in Belmont, MA—long story, but I never thought I had this]; settled on Zoloft about 5 or 6 years ago [gets rid of impending doom w/o side effects]; four yrs ago started augmenting that w/ Ritalin (then Dexedrine (40 mg), then Adderall (30 mg), now Ritalin again).

A couple of weeks ago I was diagnosed with ADD, and for the first time in my life I feel like I finally know what's been going on all these years. Right now I am taking 200 mg Zoloft at night, 10 mg Ritalin 2x each day and 40 mg Propranolol (for familial tremor I've had since I was a kid—my mom and dad both have it). (Interestingly, none of the stimulant meds make the tremor worse, although caffeine sometimes does…)

I'd like some info (to discuss with my pdoc) about increasing Ritalin and decreasing the Zoloft (or even switching to another antidepressant). Any input/feedback would be appreciated.

(btw, I am a 43 y/o female)
