sharing good stuff

Posted by terra miller on August 9, 2002, at 21:37:31

hi. i had this really good talk with my therapist yesterday. we were talking about borderline dx. (if you recall, there was some discussion here a while back about how "wonderful" that dx is <sarcasm>) we talked about the difference between that being a way someone relates vs. having prominent features surfacing from time to time.

early on in my therapy, before all the dissociation came up, he was leaning toward that dx. for me. but tonight he said to me that if a doc took a shapshot of that one period in my life and didn't take anything else into consideration, that they would make that dx. but he said that dx. isn't something that even crosses his mind now as he treats me. he sees now that i may have some symptoms common to that dx. and others, but that this isn't a dx. he considers.

this is good because i have felt that i've been spending the last 3 years trying to shake this from me. i've been trying as hard as i can not to have any appearance of any symptoms related to that dx. and he put me at ease, telling me that i didn't have to be concerned anymore. his telling me that frees me up to be more honest.. for example, if i have a c-tting incident i now feel that i can talk to him about it without fearing that he'll smack the borderline label on me.

so, he won the "good therapist" award for sure. i love those times. they are so very healing.

happy terra :-)
