He ruined our energy economy in the 80's by causing oil to shut down or move out with his national energy program. PET was a pretty boy with a nice smile. He could deliver a good speech, but you couldn't tell what he was actually saying. He sounded like he had reconstructed our constitution so that we were our own country, but all he did was loosen Quebec. He pushed for equality between the provinces, you've heard it before, rob from the rich and give to the poor. Didn't work. Oil rigs moved out or shut down, and stopped drilling. http://www.cbc.ca/greatest/top_ten/nominee/trudeau-pierre.html

Our Prime Minister in Canada doesn't hold much power against a majority coalition. The Governor General is the representative of the Queen of England (of Canada). http://www.gg.ca/gg/rr/index_e.asp The Governor General insures Canada always has a Prime Minister, but if the government ever fell, what would happen? I don't know. When Joe Clark received a vote of non confidence, the Governor General appointed PETrudeau Prime Minister. The governor general (representing the Queen) is Commander-in-Chief of the Canadian Forces. So, actually the Queen is in charge of our military, and I bet not many Canadians know that.

Have you ever tried to travel from one tip of Alberta or BC or Saskatchewan to the other? (I'm not even sure there are roads) There is still plenty of blue sky and fresh air around here (albeit cold air). It takes 6 hours to go from the Can/US border to Edmonton, and that's not even half way. Oil has got too big too fast up north, and the environment is suffering, but we can still fix it. There are more jobs than people to fill them.

PET was cool, similar to Obama. Trudeaumania followed him around, drawing crowds. He scared me with his policies and his "just watch me" attitude. He was a true Progressive and didn't mind to shout it out. Woodrow Wilson style progressive.
