Does trileptal block or inhibit protein kinase C?

Posted by butternut on September 10, 2008, at 15:11:11

I was wondering if trileptal, like lithium and valproate, blocks or inhibits protein kinase c (PKC)? I was reading some things about PKC activity and worsening of bipolar/schizo, and thought it would be a good thing if my med did block or inhibit it. My Googling didn't come up w/anything on trileptal and PKC.

I am not on trileptal right now, but I am considering it as my first mood stabilizer for a diagnosis of BP II, probably rapid cycling although I haven't discussed that with my doctor yet. I also have a family history of BPI and Schizoaffective/phrenia.

I know that Lamictal is very highly recommended by many here, but I am very concerned about an allergic response, as the older I get the more new allergies I have developed (including drug allergies).

Thanks for your time!
