> I guess I just took the name broadly?It's one of those things where words do matter. I like your integrative approach to conceptualizing the nervous system. Hormones are not neurotransmitters. However, they do have target receptors. Really, most of biology involves messengers and receptors. Hormones are defined by the way they are secreted into the blood stream, not by what target receptors they attach to. Messengers, yes, but not neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters are secreted by neurons and travel interstitially to special receptors that influence the excitability of other neurons.
