I am not an expert, but I had heard the same thing. What I had been told is that antibiotics are not selective in terms of the bacteria that they kill. So, what ends up happening is that both good and bad bacteria are destroyed, intestinal flora are depleted and the immune system suffers. I used to get frequent lung infections (brochitis, pneumonia) and had to be on antibiotics a few times a year. What I had been advised to do when I finished my round of antibiotics was to take ten days' worth of a natural supplement called Acidophilus which helps to rebuild/replenish intestinal flora.

Hopefully Larry or another knowledgeable person will provide you with more expert information.
