hurricanes

Posted by rayww on September 24, 2004, at 23:10:15

What is it like for those living on the eastern seaboard? I watch the
news several times a day. I find myself caught up in the events
happening in Haiti, Florida, and the islands, and feel so helpless and
almost guilty that I can't be of more help. When I get depressed I say
to myslef, "life is so hard to deal with", but in the same sentence I
also add, "but I have it so good and so much to be grateful for. My
problems are nothing compared to those in the hurricane path." We have
agriculture colapse to deal with, but at least we still have agriculture.
We had a bumper crop. Our cattle are well cared for and healthy, even
though we can't sell them. Why is so much of life tied to money? Why
can't life just go on, maximizing our resources, without money? Because
money is the God of this world. Riches should be used for the benefit
of others. Why are there so many selfish hoarders in the world? Why is
there so much inequality? If only everyone could unselfishly give
their excess to the poor. After all, once our basic needs are taken
care of, what more does a person need?

At any rate, how are you doing? I pray God's will be done and lives
will be spared and the hurricanes will be used to fulfill God's
purposes in your countryside, just as the border closure is refining us.
