Hi gunhild (aka The Lonely Ace),

Thank you for sharing your story with us. It sounds like you've experienced a lot of turmoil over the years and that you've had a lot to contend with. It also sounds like your experiences with the mental health system, though they may have been limited, haven't been very positive. I know that you said that you took mirtazapine after your first year of high school, but if you don't mind me asking, what other experiences have you had with treatment? Have you ever been in for psychotherapy? If you haven't seen a therapist, I would recommend looking for one, as I think that a therapist would be the best professional to consult with concerning the issues that you had as a child and the effects that they might be having on you now. I think that there's a very good chance that you'd benefit from conversing with a therapist who would be willing to understand your situation and to offer you some pointers on how to best move forward in spite of your symptoms and some of the difficulties that you've had.

From what you've written, it sounds like even though problems with focus and concentration might be contributing to what you've described as your extreme introspection, there's probably also a psychological component to the introspection that you describe. Have you ever tried not hiding everything that you feel? If you haven't tried this, I think that you might find it useful to experiment with not hiding things, at least from time to time, to see if you might feel differently. Doing this with a therapist's help, in my opinion, would probably be ideal.

Although I wouldn't say that I experience the same issues that you seem to experience with extreme introspection and self-image, I can say that I can relate to what you wrote about having difficulties concentrating and having difficulties comprehending the plots of TV shows. In my case, I would say that my chronic fatigue (which began about 14 years ago after I basically forced myself to get far too little sleep for too long as a college student) may be part of the reason why I have problems with concentration, and that taking a particular medication combo about seven years ago likely did an added number on my ability to concentrate. If you had to guess, what would you attribute your problems with focus and concentration to? Would you say that you feel like there's something biological happening? If so, how would you feel about trying medication again or perhaps supplements? I mention dietary supplements in part because this particular board is geared toward alternative treatments for mental illness, which include but of course are not limited to dietary supplements.

Well, I would like to thank you again for posting here and for reaching out for support. If you'd like, please feel free to answer any questions of mine that you'd feel comfortable answering, but of course, don't feel obliged to answer everything I've asked if you don't want to or don't feel comfortable doing so. I do hope that perhaps with the help of feedback that you might receive on this board, you'll find the help that you're looking for.

Take care,
Tomatheus
