Well first of all the huffington post is a lousy place to get info....generally very biased and have published many stories that ended up being false.....that said yes there's no doubt inflammation and depression go hand in hand because hundreds of thousands of lyme patients and lyme doctors have been screaming that for years already. It's just that the whole concept carries over to other causes of inflammation as well, not just lyme. This is why the treatments that worked the best for many people were not even actually antidepressants. They were herbs that modulate inflammation and immunity, and substances that kill pathogenic microbes. The best antidepressant response I've ever had.....returning me to who I was, not transforming me into something different....were not antidepressants. They dealt with inflammation and the body's response to chronic or acute stress related dysfunctioin.
The best anti-inflammation herbs are not however the common ones that people think of most or find in a quick google search. Stephen Buhner and Dr Zhang go in depth with the best ones in their books on treating lyme with plant medicines.
One of the best ways for me to stack the odds in my favor that the next day will be an ok day is to take an advil at bedtime. Somehow that overnight anti inflammation while sleeping really helps me.
