starting an herbal

Hi,
What is a good length of time to try an herb?
I am going to try boswellia (sp!). I understand about synergy having some exposure to TCM, but I am just adding one herb at a time and need to start somewhere....
It's brass tacks around here. I am just going to quietly read the threads on this board.
