Thank you for your response to this post Melanie. I can certainly relate to your struggles with shifting attention and hyperfocus. I trialed NAC at doses of 600-1800 mg/ day for about four weeks and experienced significant reductions in obsessive-compulsiveness and impulsivity. NAC balanced my energy levels throughout the day and helped me focus on things which usually make me anxious. It provided a calm-centeredness which allowed me to be present in conversations without feeling pressure to give feedback or respond on impulse. It worked really well for my ADHD/ OCD; however, it seemed to cause respiratory depression. Reluctantly, I discontinued NAC. I experienced an improvement in my respiratory issues as well as an almost immediate return of my ADHD/ OCD symptoms. I have found that supplements which regulate cerebral glutamte levels (NAC, L-Theanine, and Lithium Orotate) are the most effective at managing my symptoms. I hope you are having success with NAC.
