Type of physician to work with for blood tests?

Posted by FourFeathers on March 4, 2009, at 13:53:30

I am very interested in further exploring the cofactors related to the methylation process in me. I had a rather "interesting" response to Deplin which I posted over on the medication board. I discussed this with my pdoc and he is at a loss, and frankly I feel that my discussion with him of folate deficiencies and potential MTHFR gene abnormalities was more than he cared to explore.

So, I would like to explore this on my own. Specifically I would like to get some blood tests done for folate, vitamin b, and homocysteine levels. Additionally, I would be interested in gene testing related to the MTHFR gene abnormality. My pdoc is not going to assist with this and I have a feeling this may be out of my primary care physician's league as well. What kind of physician would you recommend that I contact to pursue this type of testing?
