This is the added complication with supplementation. Pharmaceutical drugs whilst having varying degrees of activity depending on the person, can be relied on for actually having active ingredients. When you buy any supplement it's very difficult to know if supplements have active ingredients, you also have to factor in the placebo effect as you would with pharmaceutical drugs. I'm no big fan of pharmaceutical drugs though, also supplementation will be strongly resisted by these companies so it's always going to be difficult to get any standardisation for supplements.
