I've been taking 10 fish oil capsules per day for 6 months (180mg EPA/120mg DHA per 1000mg capsule) for depression. This is 1.8 gram EPA per day. I am using a cheap brand "Thompson's" at $20 per 400 caps. It is the standard fish oil, namely it's not deodorised. I have no adverse effects on this dose and no fishy after taste or 'seal burps'
I'm also on Nardil, which is a powerful MAOi AD. The last 2 months I've been reducing the Nardil dosage from 45 mg per day and am currently on 15 mg per day. So far I have experienced some discontinuation effects ...depression, headaches, irritability, brain fog, dizziness & nausea. However, most of these effects have disappeared or become very mild. Still some brain fog & headaches at times.
Not sure if the fish oil is protecting me from the depression returning at its worst. I've been on the Nardil for the last 17 years, so this is a big scary step to take. I'll keep you posted on my progress.
