I've been getting saffron at Trader Joe's. Trader Joe's doesn't have stores everywhere, even here in the U.S., but I thought I'd mention it in case people had a store close by. They sell a jar of one gram of Spanish saffron for $2.99. It is the dried stigmas/strands.
