ConsumerLab.com - St. John's Wort brand tests

Posted by circusboy on February 15, 2007, at 10:21:33

If you haven't heard of ConsumerLab.com, it's a private lab that tests supplements and other under-regulated health products to see if they've actually got inside them actually matches what's on the label. You've gotta pay a modest yearly subscription fee ($27) for the detailed results, so they might not approve of this post... but, you know, you guys are special. :)

They're going to be testing (and in the case of e.g. SAMe, re-testing) the following in the next few months, so I'll try to remember to post some of the results here in the future: Alpha Lipoic Acid, Eye Health Supplements (Lutein and Zeaxanthin), Joint Care Supplements (Glucosamine, Chondroitin, MSM), Milk Thistle, Resveratrol, SAMe.

Anyway. I'll summarize what they've said about St. John's Wort below:

Products listed as "Approved" met their label claim for St. John's wort, did not contain unacceptable amounts of cadmium and lead, met FDA labeling requirements and, if tablets or caplets, were able to break apart properly.

Approved:

NOT Approved:

Hope this helps!
