Yes, estrogen works to inhibit MAO-A, so does thyroid I believe. Estrogen also regulates the activity of the serotonin transporter.
I think excessive thyroid will inhibit MAO-A further. Thyroid has marked AD properties.

So, theres no way to know that high MAO-A isn't the result of some hormonal imballance. These people may just have had hypothyroid.
