I read somewhere that prolonged use of proton pump inhibitors, stomache acid reducers, etc. can hurt in the long run, because without enough stomache acid, you end up not absorbing nutrients well, or even digesting food well. And I read that they rob the body of certain vitamins- sorry, I can't remember which ones- (I think maybe the B's?)-starting immediately. Also recently read that U of Michigan is experimenting with using antibiotics instead of these stomache acid reducers to treat "heartburn". Someone would have to go do some research if interested in verifying my memory.I've found that a good chunk of fresh ginger mushed in a tasty blueberry and yogurt smoothie can work wonders, and to top it off, ginger is an anti-inflammatory- and I almost think I remember reading that it has some calming benefits for mood, too. Again, if anyone is interested, you'd have to do the research to verify the actual facts about ginger's effects on mood.
