I know quite a few people on one of the low-carb boards who are taking highish doses of natural vitamin D3 and doing very well. They seem to be taking plenty of calcium and magnesium to back it up which also seems to help. Most of these people suffer from SAD and are helped greatly by taking anywhere upwards from 1000IUs to I don't know - I think one woman takes 10,000IUs a day, or even more.
I have seen D2 ergocaci-whatever still on sale though and also included in a lot of multis, which is a worry for people not in the know. Synthetic vitamin A worries me too - I have seen it even added to UK brands of cod liver oil! How crap is that??? Synthetic vitamin A should be wiped from the planet IMO.
It makes sense that, as we no longer spend most of our time outdoors, we have much lower vitamin D levels than before. I see absolutely no harm in supplementing this in its NATURAL form. I believe people have been known in the past to drink cups of the stuff (cod liver oil).
I personally have seen great improvements in my skin since taking both natural vits A and D from fish oil, and also my asthma.
