I have tried using ferulic acid for athletic performance enhancing properties, however,
I have noticed significant cognitive effects.
I wanted to know if anyone had similar experience.I have used ziprasidone [Geodon] [<10 mg] for over a year to limit psychotic effects of amphetamines [Adderall]. However, I do not like it, as it causes weight gain, and makes me restless and depressed. However, without the use of ziprasidone [Geodon] I would become very unorganized and would be lost in a state that I would to refer to as delerium.
I first tried ferulic acid few months ago, and noticed that my thoughts are much more stable and more orgnaized, and that I am not as confused. I was able to discontinue ziprasidone for 3 weeks.
After stopping to take ferulic acid, I was back to confused state of mind, and was forced to go back on ziprasidone.I have started taking ferulic acid again, 250 mg/day and I feel that I do not need to take ziprasidone to stabilize my mind anymore. It's been two weeks.
The effect of ferulic acid that
I get is similar to ziprasidone - if I am in a almost manic mood - very excited and happy, it tends to stabilize me.As far as side effects I have not experienced any,
except for minimal effect on mood, but the
effects appear to be not as drastic as those of
ziprasidone.
After I have check online, I was suprized to learn that ferulic acid might effect norepinephrine in the brain. Thus, my hypothesis -
ferulic acid might serve as alternative treatment method for some of the cognitive conditions. Here the references:
It appears that ferulic acid interacts with brain norepinephrine metabolism, possibly correcting deficiencies in norepinephrine(2). As a result, brain norepinephrine levels were normalized, with concomitant release of antistress hormones such as somatotrophin and endorphins(6).6)Ieiri, et. al., The Effects of Gamma Oryzanol on the Hypothalamo-Pituitary Axis, Folia Endocrinol., Japan, 58(1):1350/1982.
