Critical thinking and examining the evidence is good, but in the end if something works, then it works.
I saw a science program many years ago where they used acupuncture in this Chinese surgery for anesthsia. My aunt, who suffered from the effects of polio, said it was the only thing that helped her with pain.
I haven't heard anything about acupuncture and depression though. I suspect you'd have to have a really good practitioner who was experienced with the psyche angle.
