Hello I've used EFT. I think the theory behind it is that confuses the amygdala or overwhelmes it so that it doesn't trigger anxiety.
I find for me that it's simply a distraction technique and distracting from anxious thoughts naturally brings the anxiety down, as we all know thoughts feed panic and anxiety.
There could also be placebo effects to it as well. There are people who swear by it. I first heard it mentioned in an interview that Paul McKenna was doing on the radio here in the UK. Paul McKenna is a respected hypnotist over here, and has helped many people get over their phobias and anxiety. So it made me think there is something to EFT, and since it so simple to do, it was worth a go.
As for EFT research. I've never found any independent research. It's case of trying it and seeing if it works for you.
From what I've seen NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) has much more promise in curing phobias. You can teach yourself but as with anything worth doing there's a learning curve. I've seen Richard Bandler and Paul McKenna using NLP to cure people of phobias and anxiety, and extremely quickly. I believe NLP works but you need a therapist with skill if they are going to help you.
