This area of the brain is heavily involved in producing mania. It is activated by cocaine, speed, cortisol, nicotine, caffine ect. Some people with depression have a shortage of t2a se receptors here. It is a dopamine area. If dopamine levels get too high ,the brain cells with cut off Dopamine release maybe leading to depression in bi polar. This is the feel good area of the brain.Overstimulation produces mania. There are many diffrent kinds of dopamine receptors. Nicotine and caffine also cause panic attacks by releasing NE.Caffie also blocks adosine receptors ,which causes a panic attack by turning on the sympathic nervous system.
